Joan’s influences and inspirations come from many different sources but most significantly nature inspires her work. She is happiest when she is immersed in nature and hopefully some of that happiness is transferred to the users of her wares. Her love of nature is poured into the process of making each pot.
Tracy Martell
Hippersons Art
Hippersons is Tracy Martell, a Calgary-based potter and pottery instructor specializing in wheel-thrown functional stoneware, putting a pop-art outlook on nature.
Tracy is inspired by the natural world around her, especially the Rocky Mountains and the creatures that dwell in it, along with a dash of science fiction, and the animated TV shows she loved as a child. Tracy uses Plainsman clays from Medicine Hat, often in marbled combinations, to create useful ‘’canvasses” for her decorative illustrations and glaze effects.
