Lara Surring

Lara is based in Cochrane, Alberta. She is a self-taught coloured pencil artist specializing in realistic depictions of Alberta’s wildlife. She is inspired by the landscapes, mountains, prairies and diverse animal life of Western Canada. Her work seeks to capture both the beauty and character of the species that call this region home.

Working primarily in coloured pencil, Lara is drawn to the challenge of realism – the careful observation of light, texture and detail that allows each subject to come alive on the page. Through layers of colour and meticulous attention to detail, she strives to create artwork that reflects not only the physical appearance of wildlife but also the individuality and spirit of each animal.

As a self-taught artist, Lara’s artistic journey has been shaped by curiosity, persistence and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
