Bob Acton Ceramics

Bob Acton is a ceramic sculptor based in Calgary, Alberta, working primarily in animal and figurative sculpture. His pieces range from full-bodied forms to fragmentary or emerging figures, built up with rough, hand-worked surfaces using texture, slips, oxides, underglazes, and layered colour.

Acton came to ceramics after a back injury led him to commit to the medium seriously;

He built a studio and has since studied with artists including Dave Settles, Adrian Golban, Adrian Arleo, Christina Cordova, and Brendan Hesmondhalgh. 

He received a 2023 Artist Development Microgrant from Calgary Arts Development and is a 2026 Federation of Canadian Artists Exhibiting Member. 

His work has shown at Golden Duck Gallery (Budapest), the Federation of Canadian Artists, The Painted Moose Gallery (Bragg Creek), Arts Aqui Gallery (Calgary), Art Market Craft Sale, and Alberta Potters'; Association exhibitions, among other juried shows in Canada and internationally, and is held in private collections across the country.

Acton also hosts the podcast Colour and Ceramics, interviewing ceramic artists about their work and creative lives. Five percent of every purchase from his studio supports the Alberta Wilderness Association.
